Campus monitor at Broward school under investigation for sexual misconduct

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. ā€“ A member of the security staff at a Broward high school is under investigation for sexual misconduct, district officials confirmed to Local 10 News.

The employee, who has already resigned, is a 28-year-old campus monitor at Coconut Creek High School, sources say.

A source says the monitor was working as a chaperone at the schoolā€™s recent homecoming dance, when he was confronted with allegations about a possible sexual relationship between him and a 17-year-old student.

Broward County Public Schools shared a message they claimed was sent to parents in the wake of the allegations.

ā€œA campus security monitor was removed from campus following allegations of sexual misconduct,ā€ the message reads. ā€œThe Districtā€™s Special Investigations Unit and Local Law Enforcement are investigating the matter. Coconut Creek High takes allegations of misconduct very seriously.ā€

But many parents told Local 10 News they had no idea about the allegations.

ā€œI am appalled,ā€ one parent said.

The school district hasnā€™t identified the former employee, who, as of Friday evening, hasnā€™t been charged with a crime.
