COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A member of the security staff at a Broward high school is under investigation for sexual misconduct, district officials confirmed to Local 10 News.
The employee, who has already resigned, is a 28-year-old campus monitor at Coconut Creek High School, sources say.
A source says the monitor was working as a chaperone at the school’s recent homecoming dance, when he was confronted with allegations about a possible sexual relationship between him and a 17-year-old student.
Broward County Public Schools shared a message they claimed was sent to parents in the wake of the allegations.
“A campus security monitor was removed from campus following allegations of sexual misconduct,” the message reads. “The District’s Special Investigations Unit and Local Law Enforcement are investigating the matter. Coconut Creek High takes allegations of misconduct very seriously.”
But many parents told Local 10 News they had no idea about the allegations.
“I am appalled,” one parent said.
The school district hasn’t identified the former employee, who, as of Friday evening, hasn’t been charged with a crime.
