Patient recounts terrifying moments after standoff suspect walked in dental clinic

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – A man seen barricading himself inside a Wilton Manors dental clinic for hours Thursday faces felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.

The man, identified by police as 45-year-old Brian Koller, was seen wearing a black suit and tie, sunglasses and an earpiece inside the Wilton Manors Dental building.

Koller was also seen posting demands on the front glass door, asking to speak with the FBI and at times appearing frustrated, even taunting officers, one reading: “Your IQ is too low.”

Noon report:

A patient at the clinic, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the terrifying moments after Koller walked into the clinic.

“I hear him scream, ‘Call the police! Call the FBI now!” the patient said. “I lifted my head up and I could see this man was dressed like the Men in Black with what looked like a bomb to me.”

The patient said staff asked Koller what he was holding.

“And he goes ‘What the f--- do you think it is?’” the patient said.

The patient said staff ran out of the building and he was able to get out by walking around the suspect. But, even then, he was still worried for his safety.

“I ran to my car looking behind me because I was afraid he was going to notice me leaving and shoot me in the back,” the patient said.

The standoff eventually ended with the SWAT team moving in.

A Broward County judge set Koller’s bond at $70,000 Friday. He didn’t appear in court.

Police haven’t released any details on the man’s motive.

The dental clinic remained closed Friday.
