WILTON MANORS, Fla. – A man was detained Thursday night following an hours-long standoff with police at a dental office in Wilton Manors.
Police asked people to avoid the area of Northeast Ninth Avenue and Northeast 26th Street beginning late Thursday afternoon, amid the heavy presence in the area.
A tweet from Wilton Manors police referenced officers dealing with a “police-related incident.”
A police SWAT vehicle could be seen outside Wilton Manors Dental on Northeast Ninth Avenue, just north of Wilton Boulevard.
Police also set up a mobile command post.
Witnesses reported that there was a barricaded man inside of the dental office.
The standoff went on for hours into the night as the man posted demands on the front glass door, asking to speak with the FBI and at times appearing to get frustrated, even posting offensive messages to officers that read, “Your IQ is too low.”
The man also made offensive gestures toward officers.
A negotiator tried to convince the man to come out peacefully, but after four hours, SWAT officers finally moved in with guns drawn.
The barricaded man was taken into custody.
Police have yet to announce his identity or any motive behind the incident.
