MIAMI – Senate candidates Marco Rubio, and Val Demings discussed topics that included abortion and immigration in their debate on Tuesday as Election Day draws closer.
Rubio, a two-term senator, and Demings, a three-term congresswoman and former Orlando police chief, faced questions at the debate in Lake Worth on topics that included inflation, abortion, voting rights, gun violence, immigration and foreign policy in attempts to rally more voters.
Coming off his one and only debate, Senator Marco Rubio spoke to voters in his home turf of West Miami on Wednesday.
One issue Rubio thinks Democrats are wrong about is immigration.
“Since Joe Biden has taken over as president, 5 million people have entered the United States illegally,” said Rubio.
After asking Rubio about Cuban migrants coming to the Florida Keys, the senator blamed the current administration for the huge numbers.
“It’s a border – absolutely,” said Rubio. “And that’s what the regime has always done. They’ve held Democratic presidents hostage with the threat of mass migration.”
“Obviously, the desperation in Cuba because of the regime’s incompetence is extraordinary,” Rubio added. “We can’t have not only a record number of Cubans in Monroe County winding up on our shores, but many who don’t make it and die.”
Earlier in the day, Rubio’s opponent made an appearance at a senior living community in Delray Beach where she talked about affordable healthcare.
“We are not going back no matter how obsessed you are with a woman’s body and her right to choose,” said Demings.
“I’m interested in saving lives, and that’s why every law has exceptions,” said Rubio.
The campaigning will continue for both candidates as Election Day draws closer, with early voting beginning on Monday.
