MIAMI – A woman from Haiti who had a 16-pound facial tumor removed in Miami when she was just a girl is back in town.
Marlie Casseus is in South Florida visiting those who helped treat her.
Casseus and her family landed at Miami International Airport Thursday.
As the condition she has had since birth continues to develop and progress even after her surgery, Casseus’ family says they are happy she is still getting the chance to live life to the best of her ability while here in the states.
“She is happy to come back to Miami to visit, and she understands that the disease is going slowly with her,” one of her relatives told Local 10 News. “She understands, but the morale is so strong. Every day is a blessing for her.”
Casseus’ tumor was a result of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, a genetic bone disease that can affect any bone in the body.
She had it removed at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2005
