Deputies stop possible active shooter at Publix in South Florida

GREENACRES, Fla. – Palm Beach Sheriff deputies put a stop to what they said would have been an active shooter situation at a Publix in Greenacres.

Deputies were called to the Publix at the 4800 block of South Military Trail on Monday night.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies encountered a suspicious person in the parking lot after 6 p.m., who fired several rounds into the air and waved the gun in a threatening manner.

A deputy then opened fire and shot the man who is approximately 21 years of age.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The PBSO deputy, who was involved in the shooting, is on paid administrative leave which is standard department protocol.

Deputies said the suspicious person has been placed in custody in the past for psychological examinations.
