He was taken into custody on Monday.
According to his arrest report, Sears was one of three men who was shot early Sunday morning at the corner of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 107th Street, steps away from the Chicagoan Bar and Lounge.
Police said officers arrived at the scene just after 4:30 a.m. and found one victim who had been shot in the back and leg.
As they were tending to him, Sears walked up to an officer and said he had been shot in the left arm, authorities said.
Both men were then being transported to a hospital when officers received a call about a third man who had been shot in the area and had gone to North Shore Medical Center. That man suffered a gunshot wound to his left foot.
According to the police report, officers were at the scene investigating when a witness arrived to the area with a Diamondback rifle and confessed to being one of the shooters.
The man was detained for questioning and the gun was impounded as evidence.
After speaking with the witness and reviewing surveillance video, detectives say they discovered that Sears actually fired into a crowd of people outside the bar, injuring both victims.
The witness then returned fire in an effort to protect the victims, authorities said.
Police said Sears lied under oath, claiming his only involvement was breaking up a fight that occurred.
According to the report, multiple guns were seized from Sears’ home when officers went there to arrest him Monday.
He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
