HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A large police presence was spotted Friday afternoon at McArthur High School in Hollywood, which police say was the result of what appears to be a “false call.”
According to Hollywood police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi, the police department received a call about a possible threat at the school, located at 6501 Hollywood Blvd.
McArthur High and West Hollywood Elementary School were placed on lockdown and police shut down Hollywood Boulevard in the area as they investigated.
Bettineschi said officers remain on campus to ensure that all students and staff members are safe.
Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. as officers with long guns were walking on campus.
It does not appear that students were evacuated from the school at any point, but were being kept in their classrooms.
A number of parents gathered outside the campus, but Bettineschi said authorities are asking that parents and guardians not attempt to respond to the school at this time.
