MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Power & Light is marking another record-breaking American crocodile hatching season at its Turkey Point Clean Energy Center.
According to a news release, FPL biologists found a new record of 33 nests this season, surpassing the previous record of 28.

A total of 512 crocodile hatchlings “were caught, processed, tagged and released – the third most hatchlings in the crocodile management program’s history,” the news release stated. “Biologists also noticed that some of the nests had smaller clutch sizes, an indication of younger females using Turkey Point’s habitat for nesting.”
According to FPL, this is a sign that the American crocodile population is growing and Turkey Point has become a thriving habitat for these reptiles.
An official report regarding FPL’s crocodile management program at Turkey Point will be submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service next year.
