According to Nadine Drew, a spokeswoman for Broward County Public Schools, the lockdown status had transitioned to “secure” by 3:20 p.m.

Shortly after 3 p.m., a parent reported receiving a text message from a girl at the school who said she and her classmates were hiding under tables during a “code red” lockdown.

BCPS implemented a new emergency code system with protocols for “HOLD,” “SECURE,” “LOCKDOWN,” “EVACUATE” and “SHELTER” that got rid of the color system.

This is a developing story.
