1 airlifted after tractor-trailer, dump truck collide in Hialeah Gardens

HIALEAH GARDENS, Fla. ā€“ One person was airlifted to a trauma center after a tractor-trailer and dump truck collided in Hialeah Gardens Thursday afternoon.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the crash happened just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest 138th Street and West Okeechobee Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer driver, driving south on Okeechobee Road, attempted to make a left turn onto 138th Street, into the path of the oncoming dump truck, causing the dump truck to hit the side of the semi and collide into a concrete barrier.

The tractor-trailer driver was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, troopers said, describing his or her condition as stable.

Officials shut down Okeechobee Road in both directions as they cleaned up an oil spill.
