MIRAMAR, Fla. – Two parents were arrested this week at a gas station in Miramar after they allegedly took drugs before their children were found in their car, dirty and hungry, authorities said.
George Daniel Detezanos, 45, and Ciara Michelle Detezanos, 35, of Margate, face charges of child neglect, child neglect without bodily harm, cruelty toward a child and child abuse without great bodily harm.

According to their arrest reports, a Miramar police officer responded to a Chevron gas station at 3100 S. University Drive shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday after a woman called 911 and told the dispatcher that a heavy-set man with no shirt on was threatening to jump in the bed of her truck if she drove away.
Police said a bystander helped the woman and she left before the officer arrived.
When the officer got there he spoke with a gas station employee who confirmed that George Detezanos was causing a disturbance.
According to his arrest report, George Detezanos was standing near a blue 2003 Chrysler along with his wife.
The officer wrote in the report that both had slurred speech and could not hold their balance.
Ciara Detezanos’s pupils were also pinpointed, the officer wrote.
According to the report, the wife told the officer that she had bought and used cocaine, but she believes it was actually fentanyl.
The officer then spotted the couple’s three children sitting in the backseat of their car with multiple pill bottles within arms reach of the children, authorities said.
“They all looked dirty as if they haven’t showered in a couple of days,” the report stated.
The officer wrote that each child said they were hungry and couldn’t remember the last time they ate.
One boy said he last showered five days ago, the report stated.
Police said one of the children said he had not slept in a day and the other two children said they had slept in the car.
They also told the officer that their parents had driven to a friend’s house the prior evening and made them wait in the car for an unknown period of time, authorities said.
According to the report, the children told the officer that when their parents left the friend’s house they were “acting funny” and their mother struck her head on a table inside, was bleeding and had to go to the hospital.
They said their father had struck a mailbox and the mother accidentally ran over the father’s foot at one point.
While the officer was speaking to the children, both parents had a difficult time staying awake, the report stated.
Police said the mother was also “seen cutting the same pancakes for over 30 minutes and falling asleep while cutting them.”
According to the report, the CPIS hotline was notified and the officer discovered that the mother had a no contact order for her children and had previously been arrested in Pasco County for kidnapping.
It’s unclear whether the children are now with relatives or in the custody of CPIS.
