MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – One man died Sunday following an altercation and shooting with another man at a home in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.
The shooting happened around 5:35 p.m. at a home along the 10600 block of 170th Street, police said.
Miami-Dade police said they received a ShotSpotter alert and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived to the location.
Ring video also captured the moments neighbors screamed to call 911 after they heard multiple gunshots.
The victim, later identified as Edwin Boyce Molina, 32, was taken to Jackson South Medical Center, where he later died, police said.
Molina’s mother, Linda Taylor, said she can’t understand what happened.
“He was a hard worker. He never had any problems,” she said.
Molina’s family says he was a locksmith and believes he was on the job at the time in that area, far from home.
“He was working and they shot him down. I want answers. I want to know who is the guy who shot my son. What was he like? And what does he have in his background?” Taylor said.
A 26-year-old man has been detained for questioning as police try to piece it all together.
“The person involved in the altercation is in custody right now and being questioned by detectives,” Miami-Dade police spokesman Luis Sierra said.
Police later confirmed that the subject was transported to a hospital for an “involuntary medical evaluation.”
It’s unclear whether he will be charged in the shooting. The motive also remains unclear.
No other details were immediately released and the investigation is still ongoing.
Molina’s family created a GoFundMe page to help with the cost of his funeral, and the page can be found by clicking here.
