HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Only two days after a woman in Little Haiti allegedly killed her two children, investigators in Homestead arrested a 22-year-old mother who attempted to strangle one of her children, according to police. She also threatened to harm the two minors further and end her own life, authorities said.
Delanys Hernandez-Alvarez, whose occupation was listed on an arrest form as “homemaker,” was taken into custody Wednesday on one count of attempted felony murder causing injury.
According to Homestead police, units responded to the Keys Cove Community after a call from a man who said that the mother of his children said she was going to kill herself and hurt her children so that their father “can’t have them.”
Officers said they found the victim had sustained red marks on the neck and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and treated the victim at the scene.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident.
Hernandez-Alvarez appeared in court on Wednesday and bond was set at $100,000.
Police said it is suspected that she’s suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness.
