Brazen thief rides off with US flags in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Detectives are searching for the brazen thief who has been stealing US flags from homes in Fort Lauderdale.

Surveillance video shows the thief riding a bicycle up to Sarah Parker’s home. The sun was still out when he took his time to remove the flag and rode away.

“It’s very cornering we have three small boys ... it was the most random thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Parker said.“Our kids play in the front yard all the time.”

Parker isn’t the only Fort Lauderdale resident whose U.S. flag has been stolen. Surveillance video shows likely the same thief stole another U.S. flag from Larry Humphrey’s home.

“Pulled up, reached up, pulled the flag pole out, and took off,” Humphrey said. “It’s like, how can people take that from a property? An American flag! Why would you steal that from somebody?”

The residents are asking anyone with information about the thefts to call the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-828-5700 or at Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
