MIAMI – For Fabiola Barahona it’s still hard to even speak about her pet quaker parrot Wasabi, who was stolen from her family’s front yard earlier this month.
Barahona says she found Wasabi about two years ago, but this was very much a case of the pet, choosing the owner.
“I was working out here, doing jumping jacks. At first, I seen her hit this tree and I was like, ‘woah…’ and then she almost hit me and then she flew over here and that’s when she was staring at me and I was like, ‘maybe she’s hungry,” Barahona said.
She spent an hour feeding the baby parrot out of her hand before wasabi began trusting her and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
On March 2nd while Barahona was at work, someone stole Wasabi from the front patio of her Miami home near Northwest 11th Ave. and 4th St.
“When I got home I just I noticed that the cage wasn’t there and thought ‘oh maybe it was inside or something, but she was taken,” Barahona said.
Barahona was absolutely devastated.
She began putting up signs over the neighborhood in hopes that someone would spot Wasabi, and help bring her back home.
“I just really miss her,” Barahona said.
Wasabi can say her name and other things like what are you doing and give me a kiss.
