MIAMI – Miami police are investigating a crash that left one person dead and another critically injured.
The crash occurred Tuesday morning in the area of Northwest 57th Avenue and Seventh Street.
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene as police tape surrounded a black Cadillac with front-end damage and a busted windshield.
According to Officer Mike Vega, who is also a spokesman for the police department, a man and a woman were crossing Northwest Seventh Street from south to north when a car heading east on Seventh Street struck them.
He said the 64-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man, who is in his late 50s, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
According to Vega, detectives believe the pedestrians failed to yield the right of way and were crossing mid block when they were struck.
Regardless, residents in the area tell Local 10 News that careless drivers who are in a hurry are a popular sight.
“They speed through here a lot -- 40, 50 mph -- going this way, going that way,” one woman said. “They should have more police around this area.”
