Man injured during a police-involved shooting in Homestead, police say

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A police officer shot a man on Friday afternoon at a car dealership in Homestead.

The shooting was at Lorenzo Ford, at 30725 S. Federal Highway. Officers blocked access to an area of the dealership where there was a green sports utility vehicle with three doors open and a black pick-up truck.

Capt. Fernando Morales, a spokesman for the Homestead Police Department, said two detectives reported a man was attempting to commit a robbery at a nearby Walgreens.

“The detectives went behind the subject and tried to stop him,” Morales said adding the suspect ran out of the store and jumped into the green SUV.

The driver of the SUV had two passengers. Morales said the officer was forced to shoot during “some type of confrontation.”

Fire Rescue personnel took the wounded man to Jackson South Medical Center. Officers took two witnesses into custody. Morales said the man’s condition was stable.
