AVENTURA, Fla. – A man was trying to evade arrest on the roof of an apartment building for nearly three hours on Thursday afternoon in Aventura.
The U.S. Marshals Service, the primary federal agency responsible for fugitive investigations, responded to the Promenade at Aventura Apartments, at 19680 E. Country Club Dr.
Neighbors said the man climbed out of the balcony and onto the roof. Angel Chambers, a Promenade resident, said police officers quickly swarmed the area and communicated with the man.
“He was like basically running back and forth on top of our roof,” Chambers said.
According to Officer Hans Maestre, a spokesman for the Aventura Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service was there to execute a warrant when the man attempted to getaway.
Maestre said the SWAT team assisted the feds. Law enforcement personnel gave the man a bottle of water after he surrendered. And once he was in handcuffs, a firefighter doused him with water too.
Fire Rescue personnel took him in an ambulance to a nearby hospital. The U.S. Marshals Service had yet to release the identity of the man on Thursday night.
