FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Help for Haiti is on its way thanks to Broward Health, which is sending medical supplies to the country that is still recovering from the devastating magnitude 7.2 earthquake.
About 60 pallets filled with over $250,000 worth of personal protective equipment and medical supplies were loaded into a truck from Broward Health on Thursday morning.
The pallets are filled with personal protective equipment that are all going to those in the island country who need it to restore health for those still suffering.
The equipment is being donated to the Man Dodo Humanitarian Foundation and the Haitian American Nurses Association to support their Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
“We are sending face masks, face shield goggles, surgical gowns,” said Broward Health CEO Shane Strum.
Hundreds are still recovering from the devastating earthquake, which struck the country on Aug. 14.
According to the U.S. Agency for International Development, the earthquake killed more than 2,200 people, injured over 12,000 people, and destroyed or damaged nearly 130,000 homes.
“What you’re doing is showing compassion to my brothers and sisters in Haiti,” says an association official. “We can’t thank you enough.”
