Woman on moped killed in Miramar crash

Driver of moped taken to hospital in critical condition

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A woman who was a passenger on a moped died Friday morning after the moped was struck by another vehicle in Miramar, authorities confirmed.

The man who was driving the moped was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition.

The crash occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of County Line Road near the entrance to Florida’s Turnpike.

A Miramar police sergeant at the scene told Local 10 News that a white Kia Forte was heading west when it struck the moped.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues later confirmed that the Kia “then jumped the median and crossed into the eastbound lanes before coming to rest against a guardrail.”

The woman who was riding the moped was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rues said County Line Road was shut down in both directions in the immediate area due to the ongoing traffic homicide investigation.

It’s unclear at this time whether the driver will be cited or charged.
