Florida health officials confirmed 5,520 new COVID-19 cases Sunday and seven more resident deaths as a result of the virus.
The state has now verified 2,124,233 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 34,021 resident deaths, according to the latest health department data.

Another 664 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.
Coronavirus-related deaths reported in the past day include 12 in Miami-Dade County.
There have been 86,969 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.
Florida continues to lead the nation in verified cases of COVID-19 variants. The latest CDC numbers show 3,494 cases of the U.K. (B.1.1.7) strain in Florida, 87 cases of the Brazilian (P.1) variant and 25 cases of the South African (B.1.351) strain.

At least 7,213,793 people have received COVID-19 vaccines in Florida, with 4,400,166 people in the state fully vaccinated.
Miami-Dade has had 942,926 people receive shots, Broward has had 648,721, Monroe 28,196 and Palm Beach County 526,180, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

The statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 7.65%.
