Florida again broke its record for the highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases, with state health officials reporting 19,816 additional cases Thursday.
It comes just one day after a record of 17,783 new cases was set Wednesday.
The state also reported 164 additional resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.
Florida has now confirmed 1,429,722 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and 22,481 resident deaths, according to the health department. Non-resident deaths within the state are now at 336.
There have been at least 64,704 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.
The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 11.6%.
Deaths verified in the past day include 37 in Miami-Dade County, seven in Broward County,10 in Palm Beach County and one in Monroe County.
COVID-19 vaccines have begun to be administered to seniors by appointment only at some sites in South Florida, though the rollout of the shots has been met with issues.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 87.5 million. There have been more than 1.8 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has reported 21.3 million confirmed cases and has had more than 362,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
