Florida health officials reported 17,783 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, surpassing the state’s one-day record increase of 17,192 from Dec. 31.
The state also reported 129 additional resident deaths as a result of COVID-19.
Florida has now confirmed 1,409,906 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and 22,317 resident deaths, according to the health department. Non-resident deaths within the state are now at 330.
There have been at least 64,321 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.
The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 12.59%.
Deaths verified in the past day include seven in Broward County and three in Miami-Dade County.
COVID-19 vaccines have begun to be administered to seniors by appointment only at some sites in South Florida, though the rollout of the shots has been met with some issues.
