Broward County swears in new Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott

LAUDERHILL, Fla. ā€“ Joe Scott was sworn in Tuesday morning as the next Broward Supervisor of Elections at an outdoor, socially distanced ceremony in Lauderhill.

ā€œMy background is in technology and working with technology, and I think thereā€™s a huge opportunity right now for us to make ourā€¦to really modernize our supervisor of elections office,ā€ Scott said.

Scott said he plans to build on the work of his appointed predecessor, Peter Antonacci, who received bipartisan accolades on his handling of the 2020 elections. He also wants to improve technology and communication with the public.

On President Donald Trumpā€™s attacks on other stateā€™s elections systems, Scott said it was ā€œunfortunate.ā€

ā€œA lot of times when candidates are upset they lost an election they lash out at the elections system. They lash out at elections officials. But our processes are pretty well established, and everything we do is very transparent,ā€ Scott said. ā€œPeople can be rest assured that folks are working to just get it right, and thatā€™s what we want to do. Thatā€™s the goal.ā€
