Florida reports 11,256 new coronavirus cases Monday, passes 22,000 resident deaths

Florida health officials reported 11,256 new coronavirus cases on Monday, along with 103 more residents’ deaths as a result of COVID-19.

Florida has now confirmed 1,376,692 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and 22,090 resident deaths, according to the health department. Non-resident deaths within the state are now at 325.

There have been at least 63,505 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.

The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 12.52%.

Deaths verified in the past day include five in Miami-Dade County, 10 in Broward County and 12 in Palm Beach County.

COVID-19 vaccines have begun to be administered to seniors by appointment only at some sites in South Florida, though the rollout of the shots has been met with some issues.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 85.3 million. There have been more than 1.8 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has reported 20.6 million confirmed cases and has had more than 351,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
