The Florida Department of Health reported 11,682 new coronavirus cases on Saturday. The number of new cases is lower than the past two days where the state reported 13,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, just shy of the 13,148 cases added a day earlier. Those statistics had represented the largest single-day increase since mid-July.
Meanwhile, Miami-Dade County’s troublesome trend is another day of reporting more than 2,000 cases, while Broward reported more than 1,000 new daily cases.

The state has now reported 1,193,165 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began and 20,473 resident deaths, according to the health department.
Another 72 new resident deaths were also reported Saturday.
Florida has also reported that at least 291 non-resident deaths have occurred here, and there have been at least 59,851 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state since the start of the outbreak.
The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 8.35%.
Deaths confirmed in the past day include 16 in Miami-Dade County, five in Broward County and while Monroe and Palm Beach counties recorded no new deaths.
Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis said this was a historic week for our country. The first vaccine shots in the state were given to hospital workers on Monday and Tuesday at South Florida hospitals and at long-term facilities midweek. “Keep hanging in there, more help is on the way,” DeSantis said.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 76 million. There have been more than 1.68 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has passed 17.5 million confirmed cases, with more than 315,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world. India has the highest rates of infection next, with a little over 10 million, followed by Brazil at more than 7.1 million.
