Florida reported 2,847 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday along with 120 more residents’ deaths. The state has now surpassed 14,000 deaths when including non-residents who passed away here.
Florida is up to 695,887 confirmed cases, 13,915 resident deaths and 168 non-resident deaths from COVID-19. At least 43,299 hospitalizations have been attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, according to the state health department’s dashboard.

Florida’s statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 4.29%. The 14-day average is 4.49% and the 7-day is 4.7%.
On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis lifted restrictions on restaurants and other businesses in Florida. Local leaders can still impose restrictions, although they are not allowed to limit restaurants to reopen at less than 50% capacity
The announcement came as President Donald Trump praised DeSantis for the lowering of coronavirus infections during a campaign visit to the state.
New coronavirus-related deaths confirmed over the past 24 hours include 39 in Miami-Dade County, six in Broward and seven in Palm Beach County.
Earlier this week, the United States passed 200,000 deaths as a result of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has passed 6.9 million confirmed cases, with over 202,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.7 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 32.2 million. There have been more than 983,000 deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 22.2 million being declared recovered.
