Florida reported 3,255 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday along with 147 more residents’ deaths.
The state has now surpassed 13,000 resident deaths as a result of the virus after yesterday crossing 13,000 when including nonresidents who passed away here.

Florida is now up to 674,456 confirmed cases, 13,086 resident deaths and 42,047 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, according to the state health department’s dashboard.
At least another 161 nonresidents have died from COVID-19 in the state.
The new deaths confirmed over the past 24 hours include 22 in Miami-Dade County, 14 in Broward, 20 in Palm Beach County and two in Monroe.
Yesterday’s statewide positivity rate was 4.46%. The two-week positivity rate is 4.84% and the 7-day is 4.43%.
With positivity rates continuing in an encouraging direction, Miami-Dade and Broward officially joined Phase 2 of reopening this week, though you won’t notice major differences right away in those counties, where bars and nightclubs remain closed.
In Monroe County, schools reopened to students on Monday. Broward and Miami-Dade are still discussing their school reopenings, with Broward’s superintendent targeting Oct. 5.

The United States has passed 6.6 million confirmed cases, with over 196,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.5 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 29.9 million. There have been more than 941,000 deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 20.3 million being declared recovered.
