Florida reported 2,583 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday along with 211 more residents’ deaths.
The state is now up to 654,731 confirmed cases, 12,326 resident deaths and 40,807 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, according to the state health department’s dashboard.

Another 156 nonresidents have died from COVID-19 in the state, including two more announced Thursday.
The new deaths reported over the past 24 hours include 49 in Miami-Dade County, 14 in Broward and nine in Palm Beach County.
The statewide positivity rate from Wednesday’s tests was 5.54%.
Encouraging trends in the positivity rates have Broward County leaders discussing further reopening and relaxation of restrictions after Palm Beach County joined Phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan this week.

The United States has passed 6.3 million confirmed cases, with over 190,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.3 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 27.9 million. There have been more than 904,000 deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 18.8 million being declared recovered.
