Florida reported 1,823 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday along with 44 residents’ deaths.
The 1,823 new cases follow 1,838 announced Monday. The state hadn’t had consecutive days with fewer than 2,000 new cases since June 12-13.

With the numbers continuing in an encouraging direction, local leaders are hopeful that there won’t be a spike following the Labor Day holiday as was seen after Memorial Day.
The state is now up to 650,092 confirmed cases, 11,915 resident deaths and 40,195 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, according to the state health department’s dashboard.
Another 152 nonresidents have died from COVID-19 in Florida, bringing the total death toll above 12,000.
The new deaths reported Tuesday include 14 in Broward County, eight in Miami-Dade, and two in Palm Beach County.
The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s tests was 4.96%, continuing a trend of encouraging numbers in that category.
The statewide positivity rate over the past seven days is 5.32% and the two-week positivity rate is 5.38%.

The United States has passed 6.3 million confirmed cases, with over 189,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.3 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 27.3 million. There have been more than 893,000 deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 18.3 million being declared recovered.
