Police said Mack punched a 94-year-old resident at the Heartland of Lauderhill assisted living facility while she was lying in her bed Thursday.
The woman was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with lacerations to her forehead, severe swelling to her face and a hematoma on her brain.
According to the police report, a staff member witnessed Mack punching the woman and stopped the attack. When officers arrived, they found Mack with blood on his hands.
Police said Mack refused to comply after officers ordered him to the ground and began to fight them, at which time they used a Taser to take him into custody.
Mack also faces two counts of resisting arrest.
"We are disheartened that the incident occurred," a spokeswoman for the facility said in a statement. "We are pleased that our staff responded quickly and separated the residents and immediately contacted the authorities."
She said facility personnel are conducting a review of the monitoring systems and staff training "to ensure we have the appropriate precautions in place," but she declined to "comment specifically on their medical history."
A motive for the attack was not known.
