KEY WEST, Fla. – Sporting spooky hats and funky frocks, dozens of women in Key Largo participated in the 4th annual Witches Ride to raise money for victims of domestic abuse.
Event organizer Pam Caputo said she was inspired several years ago by a charity ride in Illinois, and thought Florida Keys residents would be more than willing to step up to help neighbors.
This year's ride benefits the Domestic Abuse Shelter of the Florida Keys. Caputo said hurricane Irma might have disrupted people's lives, but did not hinder their desire to help others.
"Everybody wants to do something. And everybody was ready to let loose and just have fun for a day. Because they've been so concerned about themselves and other people, so therefore this was a day for people to get out and have some fun," Caputo said.
There was a dance at The Catch restaurant, where the ride began, before participants rode their decorated bicycles to the Carribbean Club.
Proceeds from each entry fee go to the Domestic Abuse Shelter of the Florida Keys in Marathon.
