MIAMI – Happy National Hot Dog Day!
Fast food spots such as Sonic and 7-Eleven were celebrating with discounts. The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council in Washington, D.C., was celebrating with a selfie contest. The winner got an "Airhead Watersports Ride on Toy" and $100
The organization designated the holiday in 2009 and July as National Hot Dog Month .In honor of the holiday, here is a list of the top 10 places in Miami-Dade.
1. La Perrada de Edgar, 6976 Collins Ave., in Miami Beach, has 20 different options. From the Japanese, which has rice and wasabi, to the French, which has mushrooms and chicken, the menu is full of creativity. Prices range from $5 to $6:50.
2 .Arbetter's Hot Dogs, 8747 SW 40th St., near Tamiami, serves southern chili hot dogs and corn dogs. The restaurant has been in Miami since the 1950s. Food Network filmed an episode of Ham On The Street there.
3. Dogma Grill, 7030 Biscayne Blvd, in Little River, is a gourmet take out stand. The menu includes a pickle-heavy Chicago hot dog and the Mexican Burrito hot dog that instead of a bun uses a tortilla to wrap around chili bacon and cheddar.
4. Los Perros: The demand of Colombian migrants craving a hot dog late at night, after a night of dancing, was insatiable, so the owners of a small "carrito de perros" soon expanded to a restaurant in Kendall. They now have four different hot dogs in their menu and several restaurant locations through Miami-Dade.
5. La Moon, 97 SW 8th St., in West Brickell, serves The Supermoon Perro, a hot dog with a quail egg, smoked sausage, and bacon. They have five options for the Colombian recipe, which includes pine apple and pink sauce.
6. El Rey de las Fritas, 1821 SW8th St., in Little Havana: The Cuban hot dog is made with toasted "Pan de Media Noche." The pork sausage is cut in half. And for $3.50, it includes potato sticks, lettuce and tomato.
7. Pincho Factory, 9560 SW 40th St., near Westchester, has four options. The most original on the menu is the $6 Cartel Dog. It has chopped bacon, melted cheese, mango sauce, potato sticks and pink sauce.
8. Sweet Dogs 305, 4749 SW 8 St., near Flagami, serves the secret Sweet Dogs Home Sauce on their hot dogs. They also add smoked bacon, sweet peppers, onions, and la choy noodles.
9. Franktitude, 114 NW 12th St., in the Dolphin Mall food court and near the courthouse at 21 NW Miami Ct., in downtown Miami. Costumers can customize their hot dog and they have a Turkey option.
10. Sakaya Kitchen, 3401 N. Miami Ave., at the Shops of Midtwon, serves "Asian Funk Fusion" cuisine. Their menu includes the "KDog," which has a beef do with kimchi slaw, dijon mustard, and tater tops on the top.
