Michael Szafranski sentenced to 2.5 years in prison

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas sentenced Michael Szafranski Monday afternoon for his role Scott Rothstein's $1.4 billion Ponzi scheme.

Szafranski, Rothstein's advisor, recruited investors from his synagogue, The Young Israel Congregation, in Bal Harbour. He pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud conspiracy in July. Dimitrouleas sentenced him to 2.5 years in federal prison.

Szafranski, of Surfside, cooperated with federal authorities and paid $6.5 million to the Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm bankruptcy trustee, his defense has said.
