SB 118 cleared the first committee in Tallahassee on Tuesday. The bill would aim to override local ordinances that might hinder construction of a Trump library.

If President Trump decides to build a presidential library, it would be a first for the state of Florida.

Earlier this month, Florida International University confirmed that members of the Trump team scouted potential locations for the library at the university’s South campus.

Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez took on the role of interim president of Florida International University this week.

Nuñez, 52, a South Florida native and an FIU alumna, succeeds current President Ken Jessell following Friday’s 10-1 vote by the FIU Board of Trustees.
