TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in announcing details of his $115.6 billion proposed state budget during a news conference at the Florida Capitol Monday, unveiled plans for a new sales tax holiday: “Second Amendment Summer.”

Running between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, it would temporarily remove sales taxes on ammunition, firearms and other related items.
The DeSantis administration estimates “Second Amendment Summer” would save Floridians about $8 million.
He’s also proposing a two-month sales tax holiday on marine fuel, promising Florida boaters $27 million in savings.
The governor’s budget also proposes maintaining several existing sales tax holidays, including breaks on school supplies and hurricane disaster preparation.
He also proposed increasing pay for state law enforcement officers and firefighters and eliminating a commercial lease tax.
The governor also announced that his budget includes eliminating more than 700 government positions.
His administration said his proposed budget is $3 billion lower than last fiscal year’s.
Lawmakers will negotiate a final budget during the regular legislative session, beginning March 4.
