Space Mountain at the Walt Disney World Resort turns 50

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Space Mountain at the Walt Disney World Resort is celebrating a milestone as the iconic attraction turns 50 on Wednesday.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, the attraction opened at the Magic Kingdom Park in Tomorrowland on Jan. 15, 1975.

Disney Imagineers later opened a version of Space Mountain at Disneyland Resort in California in 1977; at Tokyo Disneyland Park in 1983 and in Disneyland Paris in 1992.

According to the blog, Space Mountain remains a must-do on any visit to Walt Disney World and for some, it could be their first time experiencing a coaster-type attraction.

Guests must be at least 44 inches or taller to experience the attraction.
