Python swallows deer whole in Southwest Florida

NAPLES, Fla. – A shocking new study is showing just how dangerous Burmese pythons are for the environment.

Scientists from the Conservancy of Southwest Florida came upon a python that was eating a full-size white-tailed deer.

The scientists shared pictures and videos of the 15-foot-long python that weighed 115 pounds, while the deer weighed about 77 pounds.

The massive encounter was documented for a study that was just released.

The study found that Burmese pythons can consume prey even larger than scientists realized.

The snakes can swallow deer, alligators and other prey whole.

What they can eat is limited to and dependent on how big their mouth opening can stretch, the study found.

”Watching an invasive apex predator swallow a full-sized deer in from of you is something you will never forget,” said Ian Bartoszek, Conservancy of Southwest Florida Biologist.
