WASHINGTON – A Florida man associated with the far-right Proud Boys group is facing multiple charges for assaulting law enforcement officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, federal authorities said.
Troy Vincent Garrett, 48, of Stuart, is facing felony charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and civil disorder, as well as several misdemeanors related to the attack, which was an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election in favor of then-President Donald Trump. Authorities arrested him Wednesday.

Authorities said they identified him along with other members of the Proud Boys in surveillance footage, saying he joined them in breaching the Capitol.
“As Capitol police officers attempted to keep rioters from advancing beyond the police line, video footage shows Garrett shoving a Capitol police officer’s riot shield with his hand,” prosecutors said in a news release.
Authorities said Garrett remained in that area, near the police line, “when a large blue billboard on a metal support frame bearing the message ‘TRUMP 2020 KEEP AMERICA GREAT!’ was carried by a group of rioters into the Lower West Plaza.”
“As rioters began to collectively drive the blue billboard into the police line, open-source footage shows that Garrett approached the rioters pushing the billboard against the police line and placed his right hand on the black backpack of another rioter who was actively pushing against the billboard, as though Garrett was supporting, pushing, or bracing against the other rioter,” prosecutors said.
Authorities allege that open-source footage shows Garrett placing his hand onto the back of a different rioter actively pushing against the billboard.
Rioters were ultimately successful in breaching the police line, authorities said.
Garrett joins more than 1,450 others charged in connection with the attack, prosecutors said.
