LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla – The Walt Disney World Resort gave a first look inside of its latest revamped attraction at the Magic Kingdom Park, “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure,” inspired by the beloved movie “The Princess and the Frog.”
The attraction, formerly known as Splash Mountain, was transformed into a Mardi Gras celebration by Disney Imagineers. and named after Disney’s first black princess, Tiana.
“The significance of bringing Princess Tiana, an American princess, an African American princess to the parks is really, really quite tremendous. And to think that I’ve had a part of that, and our team has had a part of that is really special,” said Charita Carter, Executive Creative Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering.
The Splash Mountain attraction was originally based on the controversial Disney film, “Song of the South,” which critics say portrays racial stereotypes.
The change gives Princess Tiana a permanent new home at Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort and also at Disneyland Park in California.
The ride features dozens of audio-animatronics, new music and the famous 50-foot drop.
The popular attraction officially closed in Jan. 2023 for refurbishments.
Princess Tiana’s attraction will officially open at the Magic Kingdom Park on June 28.
