It now heads for debate in the full House.
In 2018, the Florida Legislature raised the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 after the Parkland massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
It was part of the first new gun restrictions in the state in decades.
HB 1223 is co-sponsored by Rep. Bobby Payne (R-District 20) and St. Rep. Tyler Sirois (R-District 31).
If it becomes law, HB 1223 would take effect on July 1.
