OCALA, Fla. – A beloved police dog is fighting for his life after being shot while on duty.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said K-9 Leo charged at a suspect, who was threatening deputies with a gun near Ocala on Saturday.

The suspect allegedly shot Leo, before deputies returned fire and killed the man.
Leo remains in in stable but critical condition at UF Veterinary Hospital.
“He has received the highest level of treatment from the UF Veterinarians.” Woods said. “They have done an absolutely amazing job.”
Woods thanked Marion County Fire Rescue for transporting Leo to the hospital, and Ocala Police, Florida Highway Patrol, and Gainesville Police for helping clear traffic.
The Sheriff’s department purchased Leo with donations made by Marion County citizens.
