Teenage boy shot in eye by BB gun dies at hospital

TAMPA, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy has died days after a an 8-year-old grabbed a BB gun that was in the car they were in and shot him, Tampa police said.

The shooting happened Feb. 1 in a bank parking lot, according to Tampa police.

The younger boy's father had driven to the bank to get cash from an ATM. The teen was in the passenger seat and the younger boy was in the back seat, according to police.

While the boy's father was at the ATM, the child moved a loaded BB gun and it accidentally fired, hitting the teen in the left eye, a police report said.

The teen was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

An investigation is continuing. The names of the boys and the father have not been released.
