TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Lottery is warning the public about a scam involving the Mega Millions game.
Lottery officials say it is an "advance fee lottery" scam in which fake notices from the FBI or Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) are sent to citizens claiming they won prizes.

The notices tell the fake winners that they should wire transfer thousands of dollars to the scam organizers to secure their winnings.
The fake notices appear real as they include stationary from the FBI and FDOT.
The Florida Lottery says one scam letter even included a photo showing three FBI agents to prove its validity.
According to the lottery, players will never be required to transfer funds to secure their winnings for Mega Millions or any other Florida Lottery game.
