MIRAMAR, Fla. – The FBI is searching for a man believed to have robbed 10 banks across Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties.
Known to authorities as the "Ball Cap Bandit," the man is believed to be armed and dangerous. He is believed to be responsible for the robberies of nine Chase banks dating to December 2015.
The crime spree appears to have started on Dec. 11 at the Chase Bank on Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens. The man appeared to be wearing a blue button-down shirt with a black baseball cap.
The Ball Cap Bandit struck again Feb. 24, demanding money from a teller at a different Chase bank along Northlake Boulevard in North Palm Beach. A man in the same black shirt, tie and tan cap robbed a nearby PNC bank the next day.
FBI spokesman Jim Marshall said the robber hit his fourth bank March 15, targeting a Chase bank on Yamato Road in Boca Raton. That time, surveillance showed him wearing a black shirt and black baseball cap.
The robberies moved into Broward County later that month. On March 23, the Ball Cap Bandit robbed a Chase bank on State Road 7 in North Lauderdale. He was wearing a green hat.
Two Chase banks were robbed April 5 -- one at the Lauderdale Lakes location on Oakland Park Boulevard and the other on Pembroke Road in Miramar. Both times, the man appeared to be wearing a light blue button-down shirt and a black cap.
The Chase bank on Northeast Seventh Street in Delray Beach was robbed April 14. Surveillance appeared to show the same man wearing a green cap.
A blurry photo from a robbery at the Pompano Beach Chase bank on Southeast 15th Street also appears to show the same crook.
The FBI said the Ball Cap Bandit last struck a Chase bank on May 19, walking into the location on Southeast Federal Highway in Stuart in the green cap he was seen wearing April 14.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Ball Cap Bandit.
