Driver of Miami dump truck involved in crash on paid administrative leave

Investigation continues into why Larry Ellis did not stop, slow down

MIAMI ā€“ A city of Miami Department of Public Works dump truck driver is on paid administrative leave after a crash that left one woman dead and injured several others.

The crash occurred Friday at Northwest Seventh Street and Northwest 17thĀ Avenue.

The six seconds of mayhem at the intersection was recorded by the cameras outside the Bowl Bar on the corner, which captured the dump truck plowing into a taxicab and launching it into the intersection.

By the time it ended, 11 vehicles were hit in the chain-reaction crash.Ā 

City officials and Miami police are investigating why the truck driver, Larry Ellis, did not slow down or stop.

A woman, who was a passenger in the taxi cab that was struck from behind, died in the crash. She is remembered by her neighbors with a memorial on her front porch.
