Codina Partners started the school, which will serve 800 students, and has hired Miami-Dade County Public Schools to manage its day-to-day operations.

"I look at the rendering and see hope and opportunity," Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho told Local 10. "It's a great example of a private-public partnership that will bring great opportunity to children and parents."

Carvalho said there is no expense to taxpayers. The school will be privately funded but publicly operated.

"They've conveyed the land to the school board," Carvalho said. "They will finance and build the school. We will manage it, but ultimately the ... hiring of the teachers is all their own."

For Codina Partners, the school is a key investment in what the company hopes is an anchor to its downtown Doral development.

"Lots of people make housing decisions based on schools," Codina Partners CEO Ana-Marie Codina Barlick said. "We're primarily a residential community, so it's very important to make sure we have a school that attracts people."
