CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A 37-year-old woman from Coral Springs was arrested Tuesday on a grand theft charge, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reported.
Andrea Velandia was arrested after the FDLE received a complaint in May from the Office of Inspector General that alleged Velandia, owner of World Academy of Learning, was receiving Florida Tax Credit subsidies through Step Up For Students for 10 students who were not actually enrolled at the school, authorities said.

"Signatures on checks were fraudulently signed in place of the legitimate counter signature of the parents of the students who had left World Academy of learning for other schools," a media release said.
In total, FDLE said that SUFS funds fraudulently obtained by Velandia were about $63,056.26.
