Woman accused of trying to kill her 1-year-old son, herself because of impending divorce

Toddler suffered 10-centimeter cut on neck, police say

MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. – A Miami Springs woman was hospitalized earlier this month and is facing charges after she tried to kill herself and her 1-year-old son, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, officers were called to Amanda Lynn DiGiacomo's home on Desoto Drive shortly after midnight on Sept. 9, and found the child bleeding from his neck as he was being held by his grandmother.

Police said the boy had a 10-centimeter wound to the right side of his neck and there was blood on his neck and his pajamas.

Police said DiGiacomo, who turned 29 a week later on Sept. 16, was found sitting in the doorway and had numerous self-inflicted wounds to her wrists/arms, both sides of her neck and a puncture to her abdomen.

DiGiacomo and her son were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units.

The knife DiGiacomo used to cut her son and herself was confiscated at the scene, authorities said.

Detectives said DiGiacomo said she was upset about an impending divorce from her husband and had been texting him, begging him not to go through with it.

Police said she claimed that she became extremely upset after he ignored her texts.

The rest of the conversation between DiGiacomo and detectives was redacted from her arrest report.

She and her son both underwent surgery for their injuries.

DiGiacomo faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
